Tracing the Roots
The Lamy company can trace its roots back to 1930, after C. Josef Lamy left his position at an American pen manufacturer. He had been a branch and export manager, which gave him the experience to set up his own business in Heidelberg, Germany. Josef’s first pen designs—Orthos and Artus—sold well prior to World War II. After recovering from the war, the first Lamy 27 fountain pen was produced in 1952.
An Innovative New Approach
Lamy's story truly begins with the Lamy 27. The pen had a modern Tintomatik system, which enabled ink to flow steadily and deliver a smoother finish on the page. This popular pen led to the birth of the Lamy brand and a newfound popularity for the company. In 1964, Lamy created a ballpoint pen which was well received by the general public. The Lamy Safari pen launched in 1980 at the Frankfurt Fair. It was the pen aimed at a younger audience that would go on to be one of the best-selling pens in the world.
Easy to Use and Easy on the Eye
Practicality defines each Lamy piece. Lamy uses stainless steel to create specific fine or medium nib shapes. Aerodynamic pen structures, including slim and thick options, preserve the user’s grip. When it comes to design, each Lamy pen combines conventional looks with contemporary flourishes. Discover quirky grip styles in the collection such as sunken areas, ridges, and gently flared edges. This makes for beautiful, stylish pens that sit well in the hand and are easy to use. These pens are ideal for everyone from teachers preparing for a lesson to business leaders jotting down notes at their morning meeting.
Function and Form Combine
Lamy produces 9 million writing instruments every year. Although functionality comes first with every Lamy pen, form is also a priority. Attractive metallic colors like cool blue, rose gold, and gray meet with a matte finish. Discover styles with clips, transparent sections, and panels that allow the writer to check internal ink levels. These are pens made for those who take writing seriously and appreciate the artistry behind the written word.
