Lalique - Crystals & Figurines

About this Collection

From an early age, Rene Lalique demonstrated a profound love of art and of nature. As a young adult, he was apprenticed to a jewelry maker while studying art at L'Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. After finishing school, he learned sculpture from the illustrious sculptor Lequien. These influences resulted in freelance jewelry pieces that were absolutely unique, which he presented to Cartier, Jacta and Boucheron. Later, after taking over his own jewelry workshop in Paris, the designs were met with great success and displayed in the windows of the best jewelers of the day. At age 20, he opened a glass workshop, which quickly won him the "Croix de Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur." Lalique's glassworks, characterized by the contrast between clear and frosted glass and a creative use of color, came into great demand, enabling him to open up other shops, participate in several famous exhibitions, and receive commissions for large scale projects. The fame of Lalique jewels and glassworks endures to today, with the reputation of one of the finest, luxury crystal and glass manufacturers in the business.
