Oh, so that's your favorite brand...
Brands have a lot of power over us. Whether you want to believe that or not is your choice. For instance, a person who drips Balenciaga versus a person who adores Kate Spade will be two VERY different people. Put price aside, because that is obviously a factor, people who shop at one brand over the other also have different styles. Depending on the brand you choose to wear (especially if the name or logo is all over it), people around you will immediately make assumptions, good or bad. Let's dive into a few brands and several predictions based on them (opinions and research!). Hopefully, you will not end up feeling too attacked!
Balenciaga, French-based, was founded in 1919 and has become one of the top-ranked luxury streetwear brands. Using odd styles, shapes, and colors, the brand stands out from the heavily saturated luxury market. The brand broke traditional fashion standards, ushering in new modern looks like the balloon skirt or the popular Balenciaga sock sneakers.
If Balenciaga is your favorite brand, you probably are in your early 20s. Your entire closet probably consists of oversized clothes and sneakers. You swear by your Balenciaga sock sneakers and likely have them in several colors. You like ready-to-wear styles that do not involve much effort. You are daring in your kind of way. Not afraid to take risks or stand out, your clothes likely don't match traditional standards (or each other), but let the critics go crazy- you don't care! Balenciaga enthusiasts are cool and unique. The fact that you can pull off looking like a mini tent and still look put together... honestly, I am a little intimidated by you.
Stars like the Kardashians, Hailey Beiber, Selena Gomez, and more were spotted wearing Balenciaga t-shirts, sweats, shoes, and bags. Chances are if you aren't a streetwear fanatic, you love to dress like your favorite celebs who love this brand.
Gucci was established as a brand in 1881. From simple leather goods, Italian designer Guccio Gucci created an iconic fashion brand. The Gucci brand was inspired by glamorous suitcases and initially only focused on bags. Now, Gucci embraces the entire fashion industry: from bags and clothes to shoes, beauty, and sunglasses.
Gucci is certainly a fan-favorite amongst celebrities. Probably because it is regal-like and timeless! Notably, it has been seen on legends like Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, Rhianna, Blake Lively, Brad Pitt, James Franco, Drew Barrymore, Lil Wayne, and so many more. The list just goes on... So if you love pop culture and dressing like the stars, then you probably love Gucci too!
If Gucci is your favorite brand, I will go out on a limb that you are likely millennial or middle-aged. You inevitably have several Gucci Bags (A belt bag, crossbody, backpack) and the classic loafers (in multiple colors), probably even a pair of sneakers! You are totally glamorous and want your style to reflect that.
You don't mind being flashy because it is Gucci we are talking about! You like to add a little color to your wardrobe without overdoing it, and that's why the classic Gucci web stripe is perfect for you! As long as you are willing to pay the price, you can remain classy but still be cozy.
Kate Spade was founded in 1993. Her bags are known to be moderately priced, compared to the brands mentioned above. By being affordable, colorful, and stylish, these bags took off, especially amongst young women. While the brand originated in the handbag category, it has since expanded to jewelry, clothing, and more!
If Kate Spade is your favorite brand, you are likely a female in your 30s. You are probably are fashionable, but you refuse to spend anything over a few hundred dollars on a handbag. You might even describe yourself as bubbly, fun, and adventurous. Do you also happen to have a strange obsession with polka dots?
Kristen Naiman, Kate Spade’s Vice President of Brand Creative said,
“If you think of the heritage of Sex and the City, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Nora Ephron, and Joan Didion, it’s all of those women that come to New York looking for that story, and it’s the adventures that they have along the way that truly comprise it. We’re in the business of telling that story: the imperfect journey, and the perfect dream.”
You like to keep things simple & clean, and the Kate Spade brand gives you that. You can add a burst of color to your style without being too outrageous. You probably love books, travel, and art. You have some wit to you, yet you are still strong and determined. Oh, and I get the feeling you may or may not be a teacher and totally know how to sew (As you can see, I am having a lot of fun with this one)!
You are always called basic, but you were already very aware of this. If you love Golden Goose sneakers, you are not alone. Sure your Grandma might dislike them, and yes, you had to explain to her that the dirty look of the shoes is actually supposed to be like that, but it's the style! The older generation will never understand these, the same way that they don't understand the concept of buying pre-ripped/ distressed jeans... it is what it is.
Probably in your late teens or early 20s, you live off of coffee and need to get the perfect insta wherever you go. You are likely in marketing or are a budding social media influencer. Obsessed with Rosè or wine, you hate to admit just how much you love the Bachelor. Speaking of the Bachelor, contestants like Hannah Ann Sluss (from Peter Webers season) have been spotted wearing a pair.
I feel like I can get specific with this one because only a certain kind of person will chalk up hundreds of dollars for sneakers that come pre-scuffed. And by no means am I shaming you, if anything, I am calling myself out too! On the bright side, you don't have to have that "new shoe" worry of them getting dirty.
Listen, I am so ok with basic people as long as they admit that they are the epitome of basic. So with that being said, let's celebrate our basic-ness together!
Bottega Veneta was kickstarted by Italian designers Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro in 1966. Luxury leather goods were their initial specialty, and it was at this time the iconic Intricciato weave was born. The brand took off in the '70s and '80s, with stars like Jackie O regularly seen in the brand. Did you know Andy Warhol made a short film about this brand in the early '80s? The answer to that should be yes if this is your favorite brand...
If Bottega Veneta is your preferred brand, I will assume you like to keep things simple yet classy. You are probably refined and always look put together. A sweatshirt and sweatpants? Nope, you wouldn't dare! You love to travel and go to galas and other events. Being social and a conversationalist is a breeze for you. And of course, showing up as the best dressed is crucial!
I feel like those that love this brand are between ages 30-45. You are traditional, but you hopped on to the minimalism bandwagon before it was a thing. However, you won't let being a minimalist stop you from having good quality products that elevate your style. Your house is probably super clean and modern too, like architectural digest worthy. While I like things more colorful, I am still totally envious of how overall put together you are as a human being.
At the end of the day, the brands we chose to wear often reflect who we are as people. And yes, I may have gone to town with my generalizations, but can we agree that someone loyal to a brand will usually fit into some kind of category? Yes! Comfy, classy, trendy, or traditional, all these styles are welcome and available at Jomashop!
