What Makes Celine Bags Stand Out?

Celine is a ready-to-wear and luxury leather goods brand known for its profound influence on women’s fashion. Find out the story of this famous brand.

What Makes Celine Bags Stand Out?

Celine is one of the most influential women's brands in the fashion industry, establishing itself as a true classic throughout the years. Celine handbags are heavily influenced by the philosophy of the brand’s namesake founder: they are fashionable in a classy, elegant, and understated manner. The brand’s commitment to its ethos of making fashion a part of every women's daily life is reflected in the sturdy functionality of its products. This can be seen in its women'shandbags, as well as every other piece released over the past 80 years of the brand's history.

A Foot in the Business

Celine was founded in 1945 by husband and wife duo Céline and Richard Vipiana. The couple established a boutique in France, where they manufactured made-to-measure children’s footwear. Soon after, they opened another small boutique selling high-end, luxury children’s shoes. Their products reflected Céline's excellent design skills, and it was not long before the company's footwear for children was in high demand.

By the late 1950s, Celine had expanded to produce handbags, fine leather goods, and women's shoes. One of these creations was the iconic Barette Moccasin shoe, which was inspired by numerous styles throughout fashion history.

Branching Out

In the 1960s, Celine also expanded its offerings to include women’s ready-to-wear fashion. The goal was to make fashion accessible to all women by offering them understated, classy, functional pieces. This led to Celine’s launch of sportswear-inspired clothing, which included fitted shirts, woolen skirt suits, leather vests, and denim in pastel colors.

Celine continued to expand its brand in the coming years, adding a women's shoe line and Vent Fou, its first fragrance. In 1966, Celine added leather accessories to its fashion offerings, including bags, belts, and gloves. As always, Celine’s constant commitment to delivering pieces of the highest caliber made the brand even more popular, not only among the elite but also with more working-class clients.

Going Global

The high demand for Celine products led to the brand’s expansion across the globe, including London, France, Japan, and the United States. By the 1970s, Celine was a bona fide international brand with numerous stores on different continents.

Celine Bestsellers

What makes a bestselling Celine bag? Several components make Celine bags stand out from the rest, but most notable is the Gold hardware "C" lock closure (as shown below).

In addition to the "C" logo, another notable feature of Celine bags & accessories is quilted calfskin (as shown below).

No Celine bestselling list is complete without the Celine Medium 16 Bag (shown below). The bag is named after one of the Celine offices in Paris address 16, Rue Vivienne. It is crafted in 100% calfskin leather with 100% lambskin lining. This notorious shoulder bag has two main compartments, gold-toned hardware, and a Celine padlock on a leather keychain. I especially love the top handle and flap details- super chic & sophisticated!

This bag is practical and fashionable, so it is no surprise that celebrities like Lady Gaga, Hailey Beiber, and more have been seen wearing Celine 16 bags (in black).

One of our most popular Celine Bags sold this year is the Celine Ladies Vertical Cabas Tote in Printed Canvas. It was even spotted on Sophie Turner as she strutted through Paris with her husband, Joe Jonas!

In addition to its many famous handbags, tote bags, and shoulder bags, Celine remains a formidable force in other sectors of the fashion industry. As Celine’s influence continues to spread, it is pretty clear the brand is here to stay!
